2009

In the past four years, Mike Sheerin has produced and directed an impressive number of critically acclaimed documentaries.  His efforts have been recognized with four Gemini Award nominations in various documentary categories in the past four years.  He recently won his first Gemini -- for Best Photography in a Documentary -- for his work on the History Television documentary, Bravo Company: Kandahar.

Most recently he produced and directed The Brain that Changes Itself for CBC’s The Nature of Things - a fascinating look at a new revolutionary way of viewing the human brain.  He also produced and directed Mall Santa for Global Television - a whimsical, yet bittersweet, documentary that looks at the life of the professional Santa Claus.  Both documentaries aired in late 2008.

In early 2008, Mike produced and directed The Path to War for Global Television - a compelling look at the political decisions made in Ottawa that led to Canada's involvement in the war in Afghanistan.

In 2007, Mike had two documentaries go to air: Welcome to Canadaville on CTV Television and Bravo Company: Kandahar on History Television. Welcome to Canadaville followed the first two years of a Canadian philanthropic endeavour that stirred up controversy in small-town Louisiana. Bravo Company: Kandahar followed the lives of a group of Canadian soliders during their day-to-day routines while "outside the wire" in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.  Mike was nominated for a Gemini for his camera work on this documentary in the Best Photography in a Documentary category.

In 2006 his Encounters with Moses kicked off the Life & Times season on CBC Television. The documentary, a profile of broadcaster Moses Znaimer, was nominated for a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival in 2007 in the best biography category.

He also directed/produced the feature length documentary, The Secret Mulroney Tapes, which was broadcast in November, 2005 on CBC's The Passionate Eye. For this doc he received two Gemini nominations, one for Best History Documentary and one for Best Director.

In 2005 he was nominated for a Gemini for best biography documentary for The Biographer's Voice: The Life and Times of Peter C. Newman and also produced/directed The Degrassi Story for CTV which garnered nearly one million viewers in its premiere broadcast.

He is currently in production on two documentaries: one about the controversial and highly-charged gun debate in Canada for Global Television and one for CBC Television that takes an in-depth look at the reality of life in the new Russia.

All of the above documentaries are produced by 90th Parallel Productions - Gordon Henderson's highly respected Toronto-based documentary production house.
